Frequently, we get questions on the amount paid as school fees in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. We have gathered enough data to help answer you questions as well as give you a picture of the magnitude of UNN school fees to be paid for in coming sessions. This post is particularly useful for Freshers and other Non-Students of the University of Nigeria. In reality however, there is no Particular fixed amount as School fess. This is owing to the very fact that the fees are usually not stable. Moving from one session to another as well as from one faculty / department to another.
It is known that UNN stands as one of the very expensive Federal Universities in Nigeria. This is in contrast to lesser expensive schools like UNILAG, UNIBEN and other. But, frankly Speaking, are they not the same federal universities? Why can't we have similar fees? ...Question for some other day. it is quite necessary that we distinguish between School fess (Tuition) and Session Running costs (which represents other additional costs of study ranging from Accommodation, Levies, Dues etc). Breakdown of UNN School fess
Let's look into some of the key breakdown that are obtainable within a typical UNN School fees Schedule. I will be making use of a 100level Engineering school fees receipt from 2015 to site the examples (see Links to current schedule below). This is because the UNN school fees for Freshers are always the highest. Meaning subsequent fees for returning students are Lower. However, Additional running cost for a particular session are higher for Freshers and Graduating Students..
1. Internet access fees, N8,000 for returning and N12000 for freshmen.
2. Development Charges takes a wholesome N20,000 (highest item on the breakdown)
3. we will see some other itemized few like ICT, Handbook (First Year only) and more.

Some Issues Associated with UNN School Fees
However, most students have had speculations and are grumbling towards some fees they term as double extortion, and some other fees unproductive.
Fees like departmental and faculty dues. This is because these fees are being paid twice, I.e after payment in the bank you still go to your department to pay again. But this is not the case according to a Senior staff who cleared the air as regards this issue.
We will talk about that in UNN School fees part II post. We will also look at reasons for varying fees in universities.
We pay departmental and faculty dues twice. That's pure extortion. Please, something needs to be done about it. Maybe, the ones included in our school fees should be removed.
